UK based firm, Cargo Services has opened a new cargo terminal at it’s BirdPort dock facility, which is on River Usk in Newport, Gwent in south-east Wales.
Built at a cost of £1.5m, the All Weather Steel Terminal will protect ships against bad weather as they load or unload their cargo, reports BBC.
The structure is made from steel and spans the dock having a height of 25 metres, length of 60 metres long and width of 40 metres.
Construction for the terminal took around 14 months, which has been claimed to be the first building of its kind in Wales and the western coast of Europe.
The terminal has been set up to facilitate the growing income and export demands for Tata Steel, and can have room for ships weighing as much as 8,000 tonnes.
Cargo Services managing director John Davey said: "It is extremely important not only to us but the whole of the Welsh economy that Tata Steel continues to flourish and be successful.
"The building of this facility will help them have a competitive edge in the export market when chartering ships to carry their products, being able to assure ship owners that their vessels will not be hampered by unwelcome rain delays."
